10/365 | trilogy plotting

Well, I’m fully diving into my weird fiction trilogy. Wish me luck! As you saw last week, I’ve dubbed it “Project Tentacle.” I haven’t planned any tentacles in it quite yet, but I’m sure at least one of the monsters/elder gods will have some. I normally have problems sticking with long-form fiction because I get distracted so easily but I’m putting my foot down and getting (at the v minimum) book one finished in this trilogy. It should be able to work as a standalone novel, if I pull a Joy and I don’t finish the next two books in the series so… *fingers crossed*

Day one of plotting was even documented in my last “just wednesday” video:

I’m a little anxious to dive into writing already, but I know that–if I get nothing else done–I need to, at least, get my characters figured out and know what the ending is.

That being said, I have figured out the end of book one, two, and three. I just need to choose the POV characters for books one and two, and then flesh them out.

Currently Reading

I’m currently listening to the Carter and Lovecraft (book one) audiobook which is a lot of fun. The narrator is great and the writing is smooth and slick.

Since that’s brand new to me, I’m debating on rereading either Sister, Maiden, Monster or Little Heaven. Both of which are in the genre I want to write in and they both tackle themes that are also in my wheelhouse.

I want to be reading a craft book as well, but I’m not sure which one to pick up. At one point in time, I wanted to highlight and annotate my Chicago Manual so I could be a little more knowledgeable when it comes to copy-editing and editing my own work. Maybe I’ll carve out some time to do that every day too. I also need to carve out some time to study for my PI test so…

Currently Crafting

Nothing. Cause I should be writing. Haha, that’s only half true. I *should be writing* but I also want to take time to be creative in other ways. I dabble in bookbinding so I was thinking about making a commonplace book that looks a little like the Necronomicon. With paper that is fountain pen friendly. Hopefully working on a craft project that is adjacent to the genre I am writing in will help me stay in the world/universe. Because I definitely don’t need to be getting distracted right now.

Discussion Topics/Questions

Are you a pantser or a plotter?

Do you have a commonplace book?

Research question: what sorts of things scare you?

That’s all for today! *hugs*
